LufBru Committee Nomination Procedure & AGM !!

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well and in the very best of health and condition as we are now approaching to the end of 1st semester. And to those of you who are/will be having their exams, we wish you good luck - make sure to get enough sleep and rest so that you'll be in tip-top condition during the examination to answer the questions. :D

On a different note, the time for the election of new committee is just a few weeks a way. This is your opportunity to get involved and also to be part of the LufBru committee team of 2012/2013. Don’t miss this opportunity as LufBru Society is regarded as one of the best societies by the Loughborough Students Union Society in Loughborough University. We also receive credit from the BSU, BSUnion and the MoEin Brunei Darussalam. It is certainly a life changing (positively of course) experience!

Today I will be providing you with all the nomination procedures as well as the roles of each position offered. Below are the list of those positions:

Chair (and Vice Chair) (Please note that you can only apply to be Vice-Chair, the runner-up for the Chair Position will be elected as the Vice)

Its easy, all you have to do is to either nominate yourself, or friends who you think would suit the position well. And don't be afraid to nominate your friends :D

Please provide us with the following details when nominations are open (see below for further details):

Bear in mind,

Any REGISTERED MEMBERS are allowed to be nominated.
Only the non-finalists and non-postgrads can be the nominees.
College students who are REGISTERED to the society are eligible for nomination.
Voting for the election will be done on the day of Annual General Meeting.

The Nominations will begin on the 1st February 2012, 00 00 hours and will end on 9th February 2012, 23 59 hours and the Annual General Meeting will take place on the 15th February 2012 (Details to be confirmed at a later date).

Below are some details of the position of the committee as well as their job description.

CHAIR / VICE CHAIR - The chairperson is responsible for making every decisions as well as set the agenda for every meeting such as to discuss the problems, complaints. He/She also distributed all the work to the committee and make sure all the work is evenly distributed among the committee. Also always keep in track all the committee’s work and try to make sure that the LufBru Society is in the right vision. It is fun though, but the most important thing in the committee is teamwork and communication.

SECRETARY - A secretary does not merely take meeting minutes and keep important documents; he books venues for meetings and events. He keeps himself up-to-date and helps other committee members wherever and whenever he can. Sounds boring but it’s nothing of the sort, in my opinion anyways! Being a secretary really helps you to brush up communication skills and especially and more importantly, time management – a good thing to practice if you’re studying to become an engineer. It’s a position worth nominating for! You acquire skills usually asked for in CVs or interviews.

TREASURER - A treasurer utilizes and improves her skill in financial management. She prepares and plans budgets for any events or activities, carry out a weekly book keeping to update it with any activities and finalize it every month. She has the power to disapprove any events that she sees unfeasible to carry out and always keep in track of the balance in the society’s bank account and ensure sufficient cash in hand or weekly or urgent uses.

SOCIAL SECRETARY - The social secretary's main job is basically to keep Lufbru a tight-knit and close society by the means of events and activities. You cover everything from organizing the coaches if there is a need for a group of members to go somewhere such as Winter Games. You try and make LufBru an involving and welcoming community to live in. In conclusion, to describe what you do as a social secretary is pretty simple, make Lufbru a home away from home. Keep us a family and help us make some of the best memories of our lives.

RELIGIOUS OFFICERS - The male and female ROs cater to respective gender groups of the society with regular religious/spiritual needs like Tadarus, Quranic Circle and Qiyyamullail. They also mastermind the planning of bigger and less frequent events like Khatam Al-Quran, talks and Tahlil Arwah. Each updates the society with external religious events and notifications (e.g. from LSUIS or BSU). Both contribute their efforts into other events as well trying to maintain a high standard of Muslim Community around. It is a good learning process! The MRO does have the extra duty of notifying the society with regards to the time and venue of the weekly Jummuah Prayer, But it’s just an e-mail :D

SPORTS SECRETARY - He/She just need to book weekly sport basis such as netball,indoor futsal and badminton. Also provide any other sports that been requested by other lufbru member such as table tennis, basketball, outdoor football and volleyball. Handling intra-society sports event on May and friendly match with other society.

IT COORDINATOR - He/She has the fun job of updating and ‘interestify’ the LufBru website, blog, facebook and twitter. Also helps the secretary manage the list of members and sort out the mailing list. Other than that, create posters, facebook events and adverts for LufBru events and then writes articles about the events carried out and keep a photo and video album around for a walk down memory lane.

Update for the the above mentioned trip, there are 14 seats left; it's 13 pound for players, 14 pound for members and 15 pound for non-members.

Additional information: Those heading to WESTFIELD:

You can go in a group with Hidayah, Jia Sian and Izzati OR if you choose to make your own way, it is highly appreciated to be at the pick up point on time. The pick up point will be notified on the day itself. Please be informed, in case the bus driver won't able to send you to Westfield for any reasons, the committees will walk you there ( it's only 10 mins walk ! ), a good exercise to warm you up during this winter.

We will be giving you our personal numbers as well as the society's hotline in the case of an emergency.

Here is the itinerary:

05.30- 06.00 am - Meet at Loughborough Student Union (in front of Jom Makan)

06.00 a.m. - Expected time of departure

08.30 a.m. - Expected time of arrival

(You can either go to WATCH Winter Game or SHOPPING at the nearby shops in Westfield XD)

Transport to BSU Winter Games 2011 & Westfield

LufBru will be providing a coach to London Westway sports park for the 17th of December 2011, Saturday.

The coach will prioritize players but as there are 50 seats there are plenty left to spare.

For those who are not playing you are allowed to leave Westway and go to the nearby shopping center Westfield. If the coach won't take you there both Westway and Westfield are near the London tube stations so you can go elsewhere on your own. Provided that you inform a committee member and be back to Westway before departure back to Loughborough.

Price of coach?

For participants : 13 pounds
For members : 14 pounds
For non-members : 15 pounds

So all you have to do if you want to join is email us at lufbru @gmail.com your details. Name, Student Number and Member status(member or non member.) For participants, those in charge of their teams please email it as a collective instead of individually.

BruLeics Fashion Show

Hello Lufbru,

As you all know one of the best things about studying abroad is the friends we make and the experiences we share not only within our individual societies but with other UK based Bruneian societies as well. A way we have strengthened our bonds is through friendly and healthy competitions and Lufbru has been invited by our neighboring society BruLeics to join them in a fashion competition entitled ‘Passion for Fashion.’

It is basically a fashion show organized by BruLeics in hopes of creating closer ties within Bruneian societies in UK, building confidence in participants as well as encouraging creativity.

The fashion show is based on three categories which are self-explanatory:

1 – Traditional

2 – Autumn/ Winter

3 – Gaga

We have also attached a document with further information.

The winners will be based on different categories such as: best makeup, hair, walk and of course best dressed.

What we need from you Lufbru is simple, we need a team or two or three. Whoever wishes to join is welcomed to.

A team must consist of –

1) Four models (two male – two females)

2) A makeup artist

3) A hair stylist

4) A designer

So we give you two options, the first is to join as a team (give us seven names and we will register you as one) OR join individually and tell us your preferred position (model, makeup artist, etc) and we will match you with other interested participants.

So come and support our fellow society and show our creative side. Email us before the 20^th of October 2011 MIDNIGHT to join with your name and what position you would like or your team name.

Also proceeds will go to charity!

15th October is a date to note down in your calenders because we will be holding our annual Lufbru Raya celebration and this year it will be in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting. The AGM is just a brief discussion about the committee's position and a summary of our upcoming events. Once that is done, the celebrations can begin.

Things we have lined up for the day? Meet and greet amongst the members, lucky draws, food and of course karaoke. Attendees are encouraged to steal the spotlight on the day.

Everyone is welcomed.

It's also a potluck so if you can, do bring a dish to share on the event. Committee also will prepared some refreshment.

LufBru Up for a Challenge ( LUfaC)

LufBru will be holding an ‘Amazing Race’ themed event called LufBru’s Up for a Challenge (LUfaC) – its not too difficult though. The main idea is for fostering good junior-senior relationships especially welcoming freshers to 'Kampung LufBru'!

The event will take place as follows:

Date : Wednesday 5^th October 2011

Time : 2.00 – 4.30 pm (with refreshments)

The basic idea is to go around the houses, the campus and town, do some tasks and solve some riddles. The committee is hoping participation from the society in this respect. There is a limited number of freshers and thus the number of teams so participation is as always – first come first served! Below is a list of available posts and the number of spots available, along with a list of job description.

Team Supervisors	12 (*)	· There’ll be at least 2 seniors per team. · Supervise the freshers and help with the clues. · Ensure their safety. · A tour guide.
Health and Safety Officer	2-3	· Go on bikes or cars to provide emergency “first-aid” service if required
Checkpoint Guards	10-20 (**)	· At least two per checkpoint. · Ensure that tasks are completed or timed well. · Keep records of task winners and submit to the committee member in charge of tallying the result.

(*) Depends on the number of freshers and teams

(**) When there isn’t enough checkpoint guards, some pairs may have to guard another checkpoint.

BUBA UK HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR

Rizqun International Hotel, BSB – 24^th August 2011 – 2-5pm.

This is an event that aims to help the freshers, both Muslim and Non-Muslim alike, to get to know the environment in Loughborough better. You've been in their shoes, so you know how they feel. The Juniors will be around from 5 pm for a briefing so if you'd like to come earlier, you're more than welcomed!

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
Hello everyone and I hope all of you are in the very best of health and iman. First of all, I wanted to say happy fasting and let us not to forget to pray and continue our ibadah in this holy month of Ramadhan.

The fun filled of summer games comes to a conclusion. The participants were at their best exhibiting the spirit of competition and enthusiasm. I am really thankful because we managed to witness three days of exciting moments. I congratulate both the winners and the participants because these parts make a whole of success.

Those who could not script victory on this occasion should not be disappointed but analyze their performance and set out on a further mission and always remember that the winner is not twice as much better than a runner up. The difference may be fraction of a fraction.

Not to forget the volunteers as well as the executive committee for their hard work to make this year’s Summer Games a success. I really enjoyed working with each and everyone of you.

Until then, we hope all of you had experience the best summer games from us. On behalf of the executive committee, I would like to say thank you for participating this year’s summer games and we hope to see you again next year.

Hello & Assalamualaikum warahmatullah. I sincerely hope that you are reading this in the best of health. I know some of you guys might still be having your exams and some have already completed everything, curently relaxing at homeland.

As you all know that Brunei Society in Loughborough University is going to hold 5th LufBru Summer Games on 28th till 30th July in Brunei Darussalam and I am sure all of us are looking forward to the event. The DEADLINE FOR VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION is extended until 16th June 2011, so don’t hesitate if you're interested, okay? =D

Here's a HUGE plus: Volunteers would be provided with certificates, food, drinks and gifts like the Volunteers stash - certainly not something you'd want to miss out on. However upon considering your registration, we would like you to ensure that you are free throughout the Games session, and that you abide by the rules and regulations for volunteering, which are as follows:

· Throughout the Games, you must maintain self discipline and would need to abide by the rules of the Games at all times.

· If you didn’t attend on you preferred day, you will be ask to pay for the stash.

· All Volunteers MUST BE PRESENT according to the timetable drawn for them.

· Volunteers are to be present at least 3/4 of the day's event

· All Volunteers MUST follow the dress code for the Games: appropriate attire - long sports pants.

· Volunteers should be willing to participate with any task given to them by Executive committee even though it's outside their area of expertise.

· Volunteers need to ALWAYS refer to respective committee present should there be any difficulties.

Leaver's Picnic - After thoughts.

Salam and hello everyone,

Well what a day that was, LufBru's recent picnic celebrating the 2011 Leavers.

Although the weather was confusing at first, alternating between cold rain and beautiful sunshine from about 12 pm until 2, we eventually got the sunshine we wanted and headed out to the park together.

We found the perfect spot, laid out our picnic mats and food. The food, well - we are Loughborough Brunei Society, so there was mee goreng complimented with home fried chicken, keropok udang, nasi goreng tahai and other delicious delicacies, it sure was a treat.

The boys played football, others played Frisbee and baseball. Some just sat and enjoyed the sun whilst they chatted with their friends. There was even face painting and ice cream.

The day was casual, simple, yet one to treasure and keep in our memories. I am not sure how to put it into words so I will let pictures do the talking,

As for the Leaver's awards,

The best male athlete went to Abdul Malik Azmansham and the female athlete award was given to Azriah Metussin,

The Leaver with the friendliest smile was awarded to Barizah Hassan. Without a doubt, the best cook went to Lufbru's own nasi katok provider, Rosita Yakub.

Salleh Osman walked away with the award for best comedien.

Voted most likely to get married first, master's leavers and badminton legends, Azizul Matzin and Nawwarah Ramli.

The most inspiring Lufbru leaver, went to the 2008-2009 Lufbru chair, Mussadiq Mohammad.

To conclude, a message to the leavers,

I believe I speak for everyone when I say we will miss you. We have grown into a family. Some of us have known each other only for a year, others for more. Know that even though you may not be Loughborough students any more, you will always be a part of Lufbru. Once a member of Lufbru, always a memeber because we are more than just a society, we are a home away from home.

Remember that you are always welcomed to our events.

Lastly, best of luck with whatever you wish to pursue after this. We know you will excel in everything you choose to do.

Ceramah Motivasi by Ustaz Haji Sammali in Loughborough (27/05/2011)

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Exams are looming! The pressure and stress are building up isn’t it?

First of all terima kasih kepada Ustaz Sammali kerana sudi datang jauh dari London ke Loughborough untuk memberi ceramah motivasi dan mengimamkan solat hajat untuk kami-kami yang akan menghadapi peperiksaan inda lama lagi. Hopefully everyone who came that night benefited from the talk. We got some points to bear in mind, and some questions that have been bugging us pun sudah terjawap alhamdullillah.

Some key points being pointed out by ustaz are:
1) Sabda Rasullullah s.a.w: “Barang siapa yang berjalan satu jalan semata-mata untuk mencari ilmu, nescaya Allah mudahkan baginya dengan usahanya itu satu jalan ke syurga.” (Hadith Riwayat Muslim)

Ustaz mentioned that ‘ilmu’ atu adalah ilmu yang bermanfaat, inda kira ilmu dunia ataupun ilmu akhirat.

2) Apa yang kita perlu untuk mencapai kecemerlangan dunia & akhirat? The answer lies in ‘STUDENT’ itself ;) :
S: Semangat
T: Tabah
U: Usaha
D: Dedikasi
E: Ehsan
N: Nawaitu
T: Tawaqqal

Tabahlah! Seperti Firman Allah:
“Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Mohonlah pertolongan kepada Allah dengan sabar dan sembahyang. Sesungguhnya Allah beserta orang-orang yang sabar.” –Al-Baqarah 153

Berusahalah! Kerana Rasullullah s.a.w bersabda:
“Sesungguhnya Allah amat suka salah seorang diantara kamu apabila ia melakukan pekerjaan ia melakukannya dengan bersungguh-sungguh”

Bertawaqqallah! Berserah diri kepada Allah dan banyakkan berdoa kepada Allah.

3) Doa-doa mustajab
- Ketika ayam berkokok
- Pada waktu sepertiga malam
- Pada waktu gerhana bulan atau gerhana matahari

4) Ustaz said: Kitani yang jauh di perantauan jangan sekali-kali lupa kepada ibu bapa kitani, walaupun sudah berjaya, jangan sekali-kali menganggap bahawa kejayaan yang kita miliki adalah kerana kita rajin berusaha tapi sebenarnya tulang belakang bagi kejayaan kitani adalah ibu bapa kitani. :))

Dan jangan lupa minta doa dari ibu bapa tani.
“Salah satu doa yang paling mustajab ialah doa ibu bapa untuk anaknya.” (Hadith Riwayat Tirmizi)

InsyaAllah this Friday 27th May 2011,lufbru will be hosting a talk/ceramah by Our respected BSU Religious Officer Ustaz Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam .
This talk help the student to motivate themselves to study hard or harder and better with islam as a guideline.

InsyaAllah after the talk we will be conducting solat hajat,to pray that Allah grant us a strength/semangat to overcome this obstacle and a drive to achieve AMIN

Upcoming Leaver's Picnic 2011 !!

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all well and are having a good weekend. Let's get straight to it yes - Leaver's picnic.

I do realize many of you are busy with your coursework and exams but do try and attend this event, it will most probably be the last we're organizing before everyone goes home for the summer. So it may be the last time we will have an event here in Loughborough with our beloved leavers.

Things to take note of:

Leavers picnic is for EVERYONE.

Leavers picnic is FREE.

When : 28th May 2011 (we changed the date so our members who are also members of the Islamic Society can attend both events)
Where : Cumberland Park, Loughborough.
Time : 12:30 onwards.
The event is a POTLUCK, if you can bring a dish, please do so. (I remember the dishes everyone brought during National Day, LufBru is made out of many good cooks! - even the keropok goreng was the best.)

Theme?

Leavers and BeLeaver's

Yes like Justin Bieber, to explain the theme, upon your arrival we will be giving you sticker ID's. So if you are a leaver you put on your ID (Name, Leaver) and if you aren't a Leaver (Name, BeLeaver's.) The idea behind it, is that, Leaver's Picnic is a special day for our Leavers so we want to make them feel special. 'BeLeaver's' is so that they know that even after Loughborough we will always believe in them and the paths they are going to pursue. Get it? No? That's alright, the name tag is optional anyway.

What's in line?

It is a casual event, so, no registration and the such. Just come.

We do have some games in line for you such as some ice breaking games for fun and others with prizes!

We also have sporty games such as Frisbee for those who want to play. If anyone has things like a football or basketball, bring it along as well if you wish.

Feel free to bring along your own games to share such as twister, snakes and ladders. Anything. Besides your PS three's and xbox-es. We can't plug them into trees unfortunately.

What more, leavers, if you have any last words, goodbye's or advice for us who are not yet leaving please feel free to share on the day as we will provide a session just for that. Again, this is optional.

We are also currently looking for a place nearby where muslim members can go and pray, so if anyone knows, do let us know.

Lastly, stick around until about 5pm where we will have a group photo session.

So that is just about it. Any questions, do let me know. Whether this is your first, second, third, fourth, fifth year in Loughborough or final year, do come, it will be fun. fun. fun. fun. Everyone know's there is no event like a Lufbru event so I look forward to seeing you all there.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullah and hi everyone!

Alhamdullillah selesai sudah Majlis Khatam al-Quran 2011~ we just want to say, TAHNIAH to those who have successfully completed their recitations of the Quran! As our chair mentioned in his speech,
“Khatam al-Quran ani bukannya bermakna tani sudah habis and then inda lagi payah membaca al-quran. Instead, tani mesti teruskan membaca dan betadarus regularly and selami lagi makna bacaan di dalam al-Quran.”

Anyway, we would like to say thankyou to all the participants for participating this year’s Khatam al-Quran, and not forgetting, the takhtim team who did a wonderful job :)

AND kami ingin mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi terima kasih to those people who helped us with this event, the photographers, those yang menolong before and after the event, yang sudi meminjamkan perkakas-perkakas dorang and yang menolong mengangkat al-Quran and barang-barang lain all the way from Brockington and their house to Ann Packer. Only Allah can repay you for you did, insyaAllah.

We would also like to thank the rest of the committee as well, yang telah pun bertungkus lumus dlm menjayakan Majlis Khatam ini. Apalah Majlis Khatam without you guys helping us out :)

Alhamdullilah, overall it turned out to be a magnificent event! Berkat Allah jua tani dapat mengadakan suatu majlis di mna malaikat-malaikat menebarkan sayap-sayap mereka :)

And MasyaAllah, how the smell of bunga rampai just now reminded us of Brunei! D:

We hope to see an increase in the number of participants next year, insyaAllah..

Loughborough Students' Union Brunei Society will be holding our annual 5th LufBru Summer Games, 2011 in Brunei.

Details of the LufBru summer games are as follows: :

Date : 28th, 29th, 30th July 2011.

Venue : Multipurpose Hall Berakas, Multipurpose Hall Youth & Sports (to be confirmed)

Sports to be contested: NETBALL, INDOOR FOOTBALL & BADMINTON (MEN'S & WOMEN'S SINGLES, MEN'S & WOMEN'S DOUBLES, MIXED DOUBLES)

This year, our aim is to provide better services to participants and your satisfaction is our goal. Thus we're making some changes on the rules and regulations for this year's Summer Games - this was based on the comments and feedback from players in the previous games - hence we do hope that everyone will enjoy this games better! Please take note on the amendments listed below:

These rules are imposed for IMPORT PLAYERS (Non-UK based students):

Only ONE import player is allowed for each (netball/futsal) team.
Form Sixth student or any secondary school students are NOT eligible to participate in this year's summer games as import players - these are students who have not had their A-level public exams yet.
'Sixth-form - to - University' transition students are also NOT eligible to participate - this means that an import player must be receiving full-time education at the time of their participation; students who have finished their A-level exams and have not started their higher education course in universities are NOT allowed.
Students from a Brunei Government-Based Higher Institute are allowed to participate.
Postgraduate students who wish to participate must have graduated from their institute within ONE year prior to the date of the games.

Slots are limited and teams are enlisted on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. Information on registration will be sent on separate email later on in the week, but please get ready. It will happen soon!

Details are as follows:

Date: 14 May 2011 (Saturday)

Time: 1.30 pm onwards

Venue: Ann Packer Building (JJ004), Loughborough University

Attire: Jubah/ MIB (menutup aurat)

Below is the tentative itinerary for the event:

To ALL KHATAM and TAKHTIM PARTICIPANTS: Please come early (right after Zuhor prayer), so that any last minute difficulties can be sorted! And please have your UDHU ready, as you might be distributed the non-tafseer al-Quran (for the sisters, bring along your tafseer al-Quran just incase).

I shall end this with a hadith,

Daripada Abdullah Bin ‘Umru Bin Al ‘As r.a. Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. bersabda :

“Satu masa nanti akan dikatakan kepada orang yang membaca Al Quran:

Bacalah, perbaikkilah dan perelokkanlah bacaan Al-Quran sepertimana engkau memperelokkan urusan di dunia, sesungguhnya tempat engkau akan ditentukan di akhir ayat yang engkau bacakan”.

(Hadith Riwayat Abu Daud dan Tarmizi)

Our Intra-Soc tournament this weekend will be launched with Netball and Badminton (Men's Singles and Doubles) on Saturday, 7th May 2011 at NBC.

Hopefully all of the participants will be ready to play and compete! An email has been sent to you about the sports fixtures and umpiring schedule for the respective events that will take place on that day. Please do check to know when you or your team will be playing.

Below is an itinerary for the Intra-Soc events take will take place on that day:

Netball

8:45am-9:00am - Registration

9:00am-9:10am - Warm up

9:10am-9:56am - First round

9:56am-10:01am - Break

10:01am-10:47am - Second round

10:47am-11:00am - Prize presentation

Badminton (Men's Singles and Men's Doubles)

9:45am-10:00am - Registration

10:00am-12:00pm - Tournament commences

12:00pm - 12:15pm - Prize presentation (Outside badminton hall)

The umpiring roles for badminton will be divided amongst the players themselves. We have made sure there's NO clash between your duty and your own matches. For netball, the umpire will be appointed from a team that's not playing at each slot. NO refreshment will be provided in this year's Intra-Soc Tournament. However, we will reward prizes to the top 3 players/teams so luckily for all the netball players, all of you will win something! :P

Payment is £1.50 for members and £2.50 for non-members and the collection of this will take place during the registration.

Please be at the NBC EARLY for the registration as the specific booking times have been made and there's a certainty that the venues will be used after the tournament.
